I thought this would be better than photos. So Here you go. If you want to see these steps in real life as they go than check out my WIP shots of my Fursuit Head.

Tutorials to come -

Hinged Jaw Tutorial -
Articulated Jaw Tutorial -
Making Posable Ears -
Making Eyes -
Making a Nose -
Making Teeth and Claws -
Making a Ductape Dummy -
Making a Body Suit -
Making a Pattern for the head -

I think that will Cover it now.

FAQ -

Doesn't the green foam smell?

A. As this was a Little Random It ok. I don't think it smells any worse than the white. The Glue smells the worst.

How is the fur is stuck on/cut?

A. You make a pattern by covering your entire head in tape marking the patterns and than marking fur direction. Than you peel it off and lay it flat. That is your basic pattern. I will make a tutorial on how to do this too.

Do You line it?

A. You could line it. But I am just going to wear a baclava underneath it

I have a question. I'm completely new to suits but I'm hoping to make Robbie the Rabbit from Silent Hill. Here's a pic just in case: www.polyvore.com/cgi/img-thing…

I just need help with the head but I just needed to know exactly where to start. I was thinking wired or mesh but then I've seen yours with the foam. Any suggestions which would be better?

I do not like or really support wire heads, they can be dangerous -- especially if someone hits your face / it gets mashed. I feel like there is a cutting risk.

How do you make a moving/articulated jaw?

I have not done a tutorial on that yet -- I would recommend looking for another tutorial. Foam heads and poseable jaws aren't always the best combo either. :o

Ok thanks :) I decided that I'd try a moving jaw resin head before I tried any other movable jaw, I've done my reaserch and people say resin heads are the best for that, thanks anyways :)

Would you recommend Resin over Foam?
I'm going to ask my mom for a resin mas blank for Christmas ;w;
(From an artist that sells them! <3)
So I can use it to make my masks

I usually use foam padding on the inside of my resin blanks - but I would not build a foam head and then put resin over it. You would die of heat stroke.

How thick is the foam in order to make fursuit ears?
Reply
:iconsaltypuppy:
SaltyPuppy Featured By Owner Apr 17, 2012
That varies. Some people don't even use foam they use plastic canvas. Really making ears is a personal preference thing.

How would a moving jaw work with this? You would cut the first step step of the foam around the back of your head smaller right? And then put another strip and attach it, like it's hinged only with foam?

I dont know XD
Reply
:iconsaltypuppy:
SaltyPuppy Featured By Owner Apr 5, 2012
I would just use a hinge. They work the best. Foam is not the best for poseable jaws. It is doable - if you hinge it.
